Khajuraho temples

Khajuraho is synonymous with 9th to 11th century temples which are a treatise on Kamasutra. The temples have been carved out of igneous rocks and are an architectural marvel thanks to Chandela dynasty which built them. Khajuraho was the capital of Chandela Kingdom.

The temples center around sex and males, females and animals are intricately involved insexual postures and acts in the temple wall carvings. Nobody has an exact idea of the concept behind the temples but it is thought to depict tantric mysticism. The temples escaped the marauding Muslim invaders from destruction as they where located in forested areas. They where discovered by British Explorer T.S. Burt during the British Raj.

The main temples a must visit on Khajuraho tours are as follows:

1) Kandariya Mahadeva

2) Chaunsat Yogini

3) Chitragupta Temple

4) Vishwanath Temple

5) Lakshamana Temple

6) Matangeshwara Temple

7) Parsavanatha Temple

8) Ghantai Temple

9) Adinatha Temple

10) Duladeo Temple:

11) Chaturbhuj Temple

In ancient times there where eighty five temples built but about twenty two now remain at Khajuraho. There are many package tours available for Khajuraho and nearby destinations. Panna National Park is close to Khajuraho about 45 km drive.

Kambakkht Ishq

Kambakkht Ishq

Kambakkth Ishq explores the relationship between two individuals so chalk-and-cheesely different from each other that no matter how many times they are pushed together, there’s just fireworks … no fire.

Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar) is a swashbuckling stuntman in Hollywood who lives by the mantra “women are only good for two things … making love & making love”
Simrita Rai (Kareena Kapoor) is a firebrand who is more than able to stare down the most arrogant male with her caustic wit and sardonic tongue ... her firm belief “all men are dogs.”

Forces of nature make sure the two people who hate each the most are thrown together in the most absurd, hilarious situations until one dramatic twist of fate binds the two together in a manner that they could never ever have even dreamed of in their wildest fantasies. If there ever was a marriage between the east and the west, a romantic comedy and Action, Hollywood and Bollywood … this would be it!

Priyanka Chopra on her food habits

This is really weird, but I find it difficult to eat in front of people. It is something I am very conscious about......

This is really weird, but I find it difficult to eat in front of people. It is something I am very conscious about. I feel that they look at me and then the entire process of putting food in my mouth and then chewing it, becomes impossible for me.

When I first came to the industry, I was very uncomfortable. A lot of them were strangers and so I used to prefer eating in the relative privacy of my van or in my make up room.

I love Indian food, and biryani is huge hit with me. It's comfort food and I really dig into it. Whenever I am shooting abroad, I make it a point to find out about Indian restaurants. Indian food in Paris or London is like home away from home.

I am glad that Indian cuisine is now universally appreciated and hence, easily available. In case you need help to find an Indian restaurant, I am the one phone call away person to help you find one.

Aamir on how he went against his family

When I was a kid, I used to see my father and uncle making films. When I grew up, I said to my family that I wanted to get into this filmmaking business. My family advised me to not get into this line. On asking why, my uncle Nasir Hussain said that this was a very dangerous line and nobody knows which film will work and which one will fail. My family wanted me to get into a steadier line. They wanted me to become a doctor, engineer, or a Chartered Accountant. This was the concern of the people who cared about me.

But I was in love with filmmaking and that is why I came here. All filmmakers are like me. This is a business of volatility. No matter how hard you work on a film, only the Friday on which the film releases, decides the fate of the film.

Hrithik Roshan on being fit and in-shape

Well actually, I get paid to be fit. Fitness for me is a way of life. Our body is the only thing that we truly own. We should make full use and take care of it. The more you take care of your body, the happier you get. I really believe in the age old adage - 'Health is Wealth'. If you have good health, everything else will follow. I have a thin frame. But I workout for a week before I need to shoot a scene showing my body. But still, I don't have the fittest or the best body in Bollywood.

Everyone is making me out to be a Greek god, but trust me, I’m not. I do stuff like bench press and a lot of cardio. Then I do some weights once in a while. I do a lot of exercise for the whole body and concentrate on my biceps and triceps.

At times there seemed to be an imbalance with big biceps and triceps and a thin body. I am not very well built and do not have a lot of tendon. That could explain why I look muscular in some scenes and why I look thin in some frames. It’s a myth to presume that I have got a lot of muscles. You can see that in my films too. The truth is that I have very little muscles. My schedules are so tight that I do not have the time to build muscles. You need enough time in a day to build muscles.

Normally, I just do my routine exercises. I don’t workout for more than 40 minutes in a day, before I go to sleep. My schedule is such that I return home pretty late. Hence I need to workout only then. It is only when I am in India that I catch up on an hour of exercise. This happens between 12.30 and 1.30 in the night. I sleep after that. If I do not workout, I cannot sleep. Workouts also put me to sleep.

Tools Used in Technical Writing

You must have come across job opportunities where the employer seeks candidates proficient in various tools like Snagit, Framemaker, Photoshop and Visio. If you are wondering why so many tools are required to be learnt by a technical writer then read on. This article will give a brief overview of these tools so that you know why these tools are required in technical writing.

Adobe Framemaker: Adobe Framemaker is the tool you use to create manuals or ebooks. It is mostly used for large documents. Framemaker is of two types – structured and unstructured. Many companies use Microsoft Word as a replacement to Framemaker for writing the manuals. The latest version of Framemaker is 8 and was released in 2007.

SnagIt: SnagIt is a screen capture tool which helps in capturing the screen. If you think that Print Screen does the job too, you are right but SnagIt has many features which makes the job of a technical writer fast and easy. Basic capture profiles of the software include A Region to File, A Region to Clipboard, A Window to File, A Scrolling Window etc. You can also create videos with this software. SnagIt comes with a SnagIt editor which helps in editing the captured screenshot.

Photoshop: It is a graphics editing program mostly used by Web Designers. It is very useful for technical writers as well. It corrects the minutest of errors in a graphic and allows you to save the graphic in different formats like png, gif, jpeg etc. The advantage with using Photoshop as the graphic editor program is that each change in the graphic is done on layers and if you are not satisfied with any particular change you can delete that particular layer. When you save the graphic as psd format you can make changes in the graphic any time later too. The latest version is CS4.

Visio: Visio is software which helps in the creation of diagrams and flowcharts.

RoboHelp: RoboHelp is a help authoring tool which helps in creating Help files that you can find integrated with all softwares. For example, MS Word, Photoshop, Flash etc. You can create both HTML as well as a Flash Help with this software. You can also write tutorials with it and set the tutorial according to the proficiency level of the user.

Other tools that may be used for technical writing are Corel Draw, Flash, Dreamweaver, Epic Editor, and Frontpage.

If you do not have the above software and want to practice, install the trial version and learn the tools.

What SnagIt does!

As mentioned in the previous post, SnagIt is used for image capturing. You can capture anything on the screen with this software. See the picture below to get familiarized with its interface:

The above picture too was captured using SnagIt!

If you can see in the picture, there are some basic colour profiles. All you have to do is select any one of the profiles and click on capture to start taking screenshots. Let me explain each of the profiles briefly:

  1. Region: With this profile you can capture a region according to your preference. It can be used for capturing an image from a website, a logo etc.
  2. Window: As the name suggests, you can capture a window with this profile.
  3. Full Screen: This profile does the job of a conventional desktop feature “Print Screen”.
  4. Scrolling Window: If you want to capture a full length of a page of a website which scrolls to 2-3 pages or more, you must use this profile.
  5. Web page: This profile helps you to capture a webpage.
Now let us discuss the other Capture Profiles available in SnagIt:
  1. Scrolling window to pdf: Capture an image from a scrolling window and convert to a pdf using this profile.
  2. Menu with time Delay: If you want to want some time before you take a shot, use this profile. For example, if you want to capture the sub-menu too while taking a screenshot this profile comes in handy.
  3. Object: If you want to capture only a particular object on the screen like a banner, a box etc this profile captures the object with precision.
  4. Images from a web page: Very often we find some websites with beautiful images and want to capture them all and use as wallpapers for our desktops. Using this profile you can do just that.
  5. Text from window: If all that you want from a webpage is its text, make use of this profile.
  6. Record Screen Window: Yes, you can create video tutorials using this profile. It may not compare with other video creation software but it is good!

Photoshop Tutorial

Photoshop as you may already know is a graphic editing software. It is the lifeline of Graphic and Web Designers. Technical Writers too need the software for their image manipulation needs. It can help in editing the minutest of defects in an image. As Photoshop uses layers, editing becomes all the more easier. Now, let us learn the tools in Photoshop which are useful for technical writers:

Marquee Tool: It is probably the most useful tool which is used for selection. It is also called as the selection tool. It helps to select a region on an image. To use this tool, select the Marquee Tool and click and drag across an image. See the figure below:

Move Tool
: This tool helps in moving a selection. To use this tool, select the Marquee Tool and click and drag across an image. Then select the Move Tool and click and drag the selection to move. See the figure below:

Crop Tool
: Once you are done with image editing, you can crop your image with this tool. Simply select the region and press Enter.

Text Tool
: If you want to add text on your image, select the Text tool and click on the image and start typing.

Move Over Microsoft, Web-Based Operating Systems Have Arrived!

Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to announce that we, as personal computer consumers, no longer must get ripped off by Microsoft or Apple. The future of personal computing has arrived, in the form of a fully functional web-based operating system.

Since the advent of personal computing in the 1980s, the major software companies have continually exploited our pocket books and forced consumers like you and I to pick between a very limited selection of operating systems, basically two. Some might call this business genius, monopolizing a market and reaping crap loads of profit out of the product you sell, but I call it exploitation. Did you know that when you purchase a computer, whether it be a PC or a Mac, hidden in the total cost lies a whopping $100 dollar fee for the operating system. Let's put this into other terms that might make you even angrier.

Microsoft develops its Windows operating system, generally releasing a new version every couple of years. They develop the OS and burn it onto a disc. They copy this disk a couple hundred million times to sell to people like you and I or they license the operating system out to companies like Dell, HP, Toshiba, etcetera. Do the math, hundreds of millions of copies of windows multiplied by $100. Now do you understand why Bill Gates is worth 60 billion? In my opinion, this is highway robbery.

Let me introduce Fanbox.com. Fanbox.com has innovatively designed a solution to solve this issue. Fanbox offers a fully integrated and functioning web-based operating system. Fanbox offers connection to your operating system through a sleek web-based client. The hilarious part - Fanbox has copied many attributes of the Windows system, all the way down to the desktop background and the blue "W" on its word processing application. In essence, Fanbox has done to Microsoft what Microsoft has been doing for years, ripping off the creations of other companies. While some might consider this the norm in the internet space, "embrace and extent," its much more satisfying to see it done to a Microsoft product once and for all.

The benefits of a web-based OS are limitless. You can use a wide variety of applications that you are already familiar with, including word processing, spread sheets, instant messenger (Yahoo, AIM, Google Chat, MSN), and more. If that's not enough for you, you can choose between thousands of third party developed programs for only a couple bucks each. Who makes most of the money from this sale? The third party developers who created them do. The best competitive advantage of this type of service is that its entirely free. Merely type in the url www.fanbox.com into your browser, enter your user name and password, and you are off and running.

Fanbox.com offers practical advantages in comparison to your current OS, which is restricted locally to your machine. With Fanbox.com, you can save all of your documents onto the web. This includes music, photos, documents, spread sheets; any type of file you would ever want to save. You can then access all of your personalized files from any computer worldwide that has internet access. There's no need to lug around your own computer anymore. Imagine how cool it would be to access your music or video libraries from anywhere in the entire world on demand. What's also enticing about this service is that you never have to worry about losing your important files when your hardware fails.

The only con to this type of service right now is that you must access the site somehow using an internet browser, which means your sitting in front of a Windows or Mac OS-based machine. This may seem to defeat the entire purpose of the product now, but the product will undoubtedly evolve and business partnerships will be made. Imagine Fanbox cuts a deal with a major computer manufacturer and you are able to boot directly to the Fanbox web address. With internet WIFI becoming a global norm in developed areas, the internet connectivity issue shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Google Secures Positioning in Wimax Arena, Expands Apps Offerings to Sprint Devices

After losing out on a bid against Verizon in the recent FCC spectrum auctions, Google is making more noise in the mobile space, in its initiative to secure positioning in the Wifi 2.0 arena. Today, Google announced a investment in the new Clearwire-Sprint Wimax business. The company will be the first to create a national mobile network using Intel's Wimax technology, delivering faster internet broadband connections than current 3G technologies.

Google proves once again its goal to secure dominant positioning in the mobile broadband arena. The terms of their $500 million investment also create a Sprint-Google partnership where Google will supply Google Maps to sprint devices. A couple implications result from such a deal.

1) This puts Google in good position to support internet search across devices that will utilize this new high speed broadband mobile network.

2) The Clearwire service will reach between 120 and 140 million subscribers by 2010. This is awesome for Google's mobile internet search market share. The more devices Google can implement its search on, the tighter its grip on the mobile search market.

3) Google is desperate to secure a piece of the high speed mobile broadband action for the benefit of its Android driven mobile handset devices, which will hit the market later in 2008.

Here is some more commentary regarding the news from the official Google blog:

In addition to our $500 million contribution as part of the investment group, we will provide search and applications to the network’s users, and will work with Clearwire to offer additional services and applications. This will include jointly creating an open Internet protocol to work with mobile broadband devices (including Android-powered devices) and implementing other open network practices and policies.

We believe that the new network will provide wireless consumers with real choices for the software applications, content and handsets that they desire. Such freedom will mirror the openness principles underlying the Internet and enable users to get the most out of their wireless broadband experience. As we’ve supported open standards for spectrum and wireless handsets, we’re especially excited that Clearwire intends to build and maintain a network that will embrace important openness features. In particular, the network will: (1) expand advanced high speed wireless Internet access in the U.S., (2) allow consumers to utilize any lawful applications, content and devices without blocking, degrading or impairing Internet traffic and (3) engage in reasonable and competitively-neutral network management.

Interview with Zuckerberg, and will Facebook Replace Email?

Anybody that watched Sarah Lacy's interview with Mark Zuckerberg at the SXSW would agree it was a complete debacle. Lacy's interview style consisted of personal statements commenting on Lacy's prior knowledge and opinion of Facebook, avoiding to ask many of the tough questions that would hopefully trigger some juicy Zuckerberg responses. The crowd rejected her seemingly irrelevant jargon - it was actually quite hilarious to watch (Youtube clip) - taunting Lacy for her lame interview style, which led to few valuable responses on Zuckerberg's end. While Lacy's interview attempt seemingly failed, Lacy was able to get something out of Zuckerberg's mouth. Zuckerberg repetitively described Facebook as an "effective communication tool." While the probable immediate reaction might be something like, "What else is new?," the question I pose is as follows: exactly how effective is Facebook as a communication tool in comparison to other popular forms of internet communication?

First, let's consider the many ways one can communicate on the Facebook platform. Facebook offers user's the ability to message, poke, share photos, share videos, view news feeds, share job listing, share marketplace items, and much more. One could argue these are all forms of communication. That's a tremendous amount of information flowing on the Facebook network, including textual content as well as rich multimedia content. However, for now, lets only consider Facebook's messaging function. With almost 70 million users worldwide, and with 250,000 new registrations per day, will Facebook's messaging overthrow email?

The most standard form of internet based communications over the past 15 years has been email or web mail. While there are few statistics out there about general worldwide email usage, an October 2007 report by technology market research firm, The Radicati Group, estimated that 1.2 billion people used email in 2007. Furthermore, Pew Internet and American Life Project data from March 2007 showed that 56% of the world's total internet users used email as part of a typical day. In regards to email providers, the top US provider was Yahoo by a long shot. In February 2008, a Yahoo executive claimed the company served 260 million email users. What do all of these statistics mean?

These figures express that email is a widely used communication tool worldwide, and over half of daily internet users access some form of web mail each and every day. While the email figures appear daunting, Facebook's excessive growth in traffic could jeopardize email usage, at least in countries where where Facebook has a firm presence, specifically the United States and the UK.

Internet World Stats
suggests that roughly 210 million people use the internet in the United States. Taking into account the figures from the Pew Internet and American life report, one could deduce that a little over 100 million Americans in the U.S. use email every single day. Considering these statistics, Facebook usage would appear to be catching up to email because Facebook usage, by new users, is growing faster than internet users are increasing. Who is to say at which point in time Facebook's U.S. growth will reach plateau, reaching critical mass? Who is to say this won't happen until the number of U.S. Facebook users surpasses the 100 million mark (if and when).

While one has to take into consideration that not all Facebook users necessarily message on a daily basis, if U.S. Facebook traffic continues to increase, the "effective communication tool" may eventually rival email. It's a bold consideration, yes, but not unfathomable.

Why pay for guitar lessons when you can learn to play for free?

TechCrunch reported today about a new feature in Apple's famed music editing program, Garage Band, that allows user to leave the program and be directed to the "Lesson Store" where they can download an app that helps wanna-be musicians learn how to play the guitar.

Since its unveiling at Macworld, enthusiasts think it might be the next music "revolution in music" - whatever that means. Essentially, the guitar lessons offer a video of the music artist discussing hwo to play their song. Below the video is a tab that notes the finger placements. The most valuable feature is that you can loop any segment of music until you've mastered it.

The lessons are 5 bucks a pop. At launch, the selection will be pretty weak, with the store only offering four songs available for the guitar, with artists including Sting (cool), Ben Folds (not cool), Jimmy Page (way cool), and Billy Joel (not cool).

Although its safe to assume the selection will surely grow, I offer a counter-solution to quench your musical thirst.

Use this gameplan to save yourself some dough and learn how to play any song on the guitar:

1. Tune the guitar - Use a free guitar tuner flash app like the one found at HowToTuneaGuitar.org to tune the guitar to your liking. You can either tune by ear with the guidance of the app. It's super easy.

2. Learn the chords - Go to Google images and do a search for "guitar chords." Pick the chord sheet of your choice and start training your fingers with the chord placements.

3. Learn the tabs - Now that your hands are tired and your fingertips are throbbing, go to Ultimate-Guitar.com and search for music you wish to learn how to play. You can search by song name or artist. You can select to view either the tab or the chords to the song. Keep practicing using these tabs or...

4. Watch a video lesson - Speed up the learning curve by heading over to YouTube and do a search for a guitar lesson of your choice. Most popular songs will be on here and offer a step by step practice lesson. Be aware of the tuning on the guitar in the video; it may be different than yours. Viewing multiple videos on one song will offer you a variety of different ways to play the song.

Computers and Coffee, Who Would of Thought?

Transport yourself back to 1981...

Where did you live and what were you doing? What were your interests? What did you devote your time to? How did you access the news? How did you spend your lunch breaks at work? How did you access information? How did you connect with friends? How did you buy your concert tickets? How did you check your fantasy football - fantasy football... what's that? How did you listen to music? How did you make a restaurant reservation? How did you transfer funds into a different bank account? Where did you go to pay your mortgage? How did you monitor your debt? How did your mom discover a new recipe? How did you send mail? What did yo use to talk to somebody across the country? How did you check up on your kids in daycare while you were at work? How did you go shopping? How did you hear about national tragedy? How did you help elect a president? How did you research a car you were considering buying? How did you communicate to loved ones in other countries? If you wanted to "poke" your friend, how would you of done that? How did you gossip? How did you contribute your knowledge to the world? How did you express your passions? What did you use to research a company before you investing in it? How did yo humor yourself? How did you meet your wife? Why did you and your stock broker have such a good relationship? How did you monitor your home security? Where did you watch movie trailers? What did you use to listen to radio? How did you custom design your t-shirts? How did you express your artistic ability? How did you make your money? Where did you sell your unwanted belongings?

The Multi-Million Dollar Learning Curve

Today I had the thrill of teaching Facebook to a serial entrepreneur and multi-millionaire, and it was one of the funniest experiences of my entire life. Why was it so funny? With somebody whose accolades range from starting help trigger a cultural revolution to accomplishing the fastest IPO in history to building a billion dollar business, you'd think pretty much anything came naturally to a person like this - but absolutely not.

How could something as simple as sending a message to a friend be such a difficult concept? Sharing a link - what the heck is that? Somebody tagged me in a video so they could gain more recognition and traffic, even though I wasn't even in the video, what an asshole! Who the heck put these pictures of me up online - I didn't approve this! Tagging - is that an illegal act? Who are these "wall" comments directed to? Why are these people talking about me?

Its important to remember that the little things younger generations take for granted don't come second nature to everybody. While "those social network things" aren't anything new, there's still a giant technology gap between younger and older generations even in today's high speed digital era. Are we nearing a point in the not-too-distant future where technology evolves quicker than mainstream society's ability to adapt these changes? Will human aptitude to receive, process, adopt and perfect technology limit the speed of future progress?

With technological innovation evolving at light speed, specifically in regards to the internet, have we ever seen such a large gap in common knowledge? Probably not. Has there ever been such an important society-influencing technological innovation that was so easily adopted by a younger generation and relatively disregarded by an older generation?

How to Turn a Business into a High Powered Sales Producing Machine, Part 1

Businesses are like car engines: they're complex, consist of many moving pieces, and come in all different shapes and sizes. What kind of car engine does your company currently perform like, the engine from a 1992 Geo Metro or a Ferrari 599 GTB?

The one fundamental thing that all engines have in common; they can't function and produce energy without one key ingredient, fuel.

In business, a company's ability to grow is directly realated to its ability to produce energy, or revenues, through sales. Selling is the high-octane activity that allows a business to accelerate from 5 miles per hour to 150 miles per hour, from startup to a high flying industry leader.

Entrepreneurs and bussiness owners looking to turn their businesses into a Ferrari Engine must focus their attention on the highest income producing activities; marketing and sales. Whether you, the business owner, is an effective salesman or not - that's okay - but if you are not, its your responsibility to make sure the appropriate people and systems are in place to make sales decisions and produce sales.

This post is the first part in a series highlighting the key fundamentals to making the sale. In this first part I will focus on preparation for making the sale, specifically as it relates to mindset and first impression.

Gene McNaughton, a sales expert whose track record includes growing a 900 million dollar sales division at Dell, leading the Anthony Robbins company to its most profitable year ever as VP of Sales, and a managing partner at OneCoach Inc., insists that in order to create sales, a salesman must initally focus on two fundamental things.

1. It begins with psychology

The difference between an effective salesperson and not is their ability to impact an environment and persuade an individual or group of people to create a certain belief or conviction.

In order to become a master persuader, you must first persuade yourself.

While effective salesman must be extraorinary communicators, clear in their outcomes, rapport builders, and generally likeable, non of this matters unless an appropriate mindset is established BEFORE any interactions with the prospect.

You, the salesman or saleswoman should assess how you think about yourself. Do you absolutely believe you are an effective persuader? Even if your results have not exemplified this belief in the past, in order to step up your game, you must convince yourself first that you are masterful at persuasion. If a voice inside your heads keep rejecting this positive affirmation, completely ignore it. Over time, this self limiting belief and suffocate and dissapear.

Next, build a mindset for success by visualizing and becoming clear on your desired outcome. In an initial interaction with a prospect, are you trying to introduce yourself and build rapport, set a future appointment, or close a sale on the spot?

Furthermore, as you visualize completing the sale, what does the experience look like? How does the handshake feel that secures the deal? What is being said during this interaction? What questions are you asking? How is the prospect responding? What is your energy and enthusiasm level? What problem are you solving by persuading the prospect to use your products or services? What does the "yes" sound like, when a prospect agrees to become your valued client?

Visualizing help creates a bridge between the "before the sale" and the "close of the sale." This mental exercise makes it eaiser to turn this imagery into reality.

2. Building rapport begins with a good first impression

McNaughton explains, "There is never a second chance at a good first impression." Since the abilitiy to close a sale correlates to the amount of trust that has been built between the salesman, and the prospect, before the decision to purchase has been made, make sure to make an early impression.

Since prospects tend to make judgements within the first 4 seconds on a telehpone call, or within 10 seconds of a face to face meeting, the introduction is absolutely vital to future sales success.

Everything matters during this interaction, including your physiological and emotional apppearance: clothes, hair, expression, scent, voice level, cleanliness, shininess of shoes, energy, voice inflection, and smile. From beginning to finish, your prospect will constantly be making conscious and non-conscious judgements about you. Come to the ballpark ready to impress the crowd.

Next, practice your introduction religously, in private, before your inital meeting with a prospect. McNaughton says it beautifully, "You will be rewarded publicy for what you practice privately."

The prospect will also judge your ability to articulate and effectively communicate your vision, purpose, and benefits of your products or services. If you expect to sell like a professional, communicate like a proffesional. Use correct grammar and keep your sentences concise and to the point. Nobody enjoys listening to a rambler. If you communicate your elevator pitch cearly, concisely, and enthuisiastically, you will make a great inital impression, which will help pave a road to success.

Stay tuned for part 2 in this series, the key techniques to persuasion architecture selling.

How to Manage Brand Identity Using Twitter

While nearly everybody's heard about Twitter, the micro-blogging service that is continuing to gain traction around the world, how does one leverage its power to manage brand identity?

Companies, both big and small, are finding tremendous utility in using Twitter to get inside the mind of the consumer. Companies can leverage Twitter to manage their brand identity, conduct instantaneous market research, facilitate damage control with irritated customers, and communicate special promotions.

Manage Brand Identity

Twitter's search engine, search.twitter.com, formally Summize, allows anybody to tap into the tweeting universe and search for keywords appearing in updates and tweets. Its easy for companies to eaves drop on the ongoing conversation about their brand. For example, somebody could keyword search "Southwest" airlines to monitor what is being talked about in relation to the airline. Are customers satisfied or angry? What are they saying about the new special promotion?Damage Control

Considering people are much more likely to tweet about somebody that irritated them compared to something that made them happy, it's easy to pinpoint and communicate with frustrated customers. Was the flight attendant on the trip to Atlanta rude, lackadaisical, or lazy? Southwest can pin-point somebody tweeting about this issue and send them a direct message offering them a complimentary ticket or discount on future flights. Forgot expensive call centers to deal with angry customers... go digital and fix the problem immediately by sending a direct message within seconds of the customer's gripe.

Conduct Market Research

Companies used to (and still) spend thousands, hundreds of thousands, and even millions of dollars to conduct expensive market research. While it's extremely important to get direct feedback from customers, there are ways to do it that don't break the bank. Brands can tweet specific questions to their followers, and get instantaneous market feedback. Southwest might ask the world:

"How can we improve cross country flights?"

"What should be added to the dinner menu?"

"Which airline have the most comfortable seats?"

"How satisfied are you with the overall Southwest experience on a scale of 1 (lowest) -10 (highest)?"

Followers will then send direct messages back to the brand's Twitter ID inbox.

Special Promotions

Running a new promotion... flight's to Vegas for $69? Promote special deals, discounts, and promotional campaigns by Tweeting about a special offer, including a link to a landing page with more information. Just like when doing an email marketing blast, increase "click through" rates to the link by tweeting creative and intriguing copy. Make the world so curious about this new promotion that they feel compelled to click through to the landing page.

Want to persuade your prospects to purchase? Leverage video testimonials

Business owners frequently ask: how can I convert more prospects to paying clients?

While there's usually a bit of investigating that needs to take place before this question can be answered - are they focused on an ideal client or trying to be everything to everybody, are they targeting the right niche market, are they offering unique value to their market, have they mapped out their sales process, etc - for this post... we'll assume all of the above is being done correctly.

Social proof can be a powerful influencing force in persuading qualified prospects to take action and purchase your products and services. When people see other people doing something, there's a bit of persuasion that takes place.

Furthermore, video is a powerful medium that can create interest and engagement with it's viewers. Video is easy to generate using a simple digital video camera like a flip mino hd, and with basic editing using Video Studio Editing, out pops an engaging piece of content that captures the attention of its viewers.

But how can business owners combine the powers of social proof and video to help convert prospect to paying clients?

Many business owners, especially small business owners, and to their disadvantage, immediately ignore the idea of using video testimonials on their website to influence their prospects. They immediately assume creating a video testimonial involves a production crew, expensive video equipment, a green screen, and an elaborate plan --- FALSE.

You can create a series of influential video testimonials for under $500. Pick up a digital video camera and some basic video editing software.

But what is the special sauce to creating a great video testimonial?

1. Pan for Gold - Identify 3-5 of your favorite and happiest customers of all time, and ask them if they'd be willing to hop on camera for a brief moment to be featured in a testimonial. Explain to them that you value their business, and think of them as one of your best customers, and that you selected them out of a large pool of customers. Offer them a special discount or gift certificate to their favorite restaurant for helping you out. Have them sign a release form verifying permission for you to use the testimonial at your discretion.

2. Simple Preparation - Tell those who accept your offer that you will be asking them 3 simple questions: 1. What was life life before they used your product or service? 2. What was life during when they were using your product or service. 3 What will life be like in the future as they continue to benefit from your product or service? The key is to get them to elaborate on how your product or service has helped improve their life.

3. Start Filming - Using your digital camera, film your happy customers answering the above 3 questions. These testimonials don't have to be long, if your product or service is really valuable and they keep talking, let them! You can edit later.

4. Post to your Website - Create a special page on your website called "Success Stories." Post your video testimonials to your website. In your sales conversations, drive customers to your testimonials page for them to view the success stories of happy clients. If you are running a special promotion or sale that requires a separate landing page, place your video testimonials in between your persuasive sales copy.

Watch your sales conversion rates increase!

Zuckerberg: Facebook taking a monolithic approach creating the foundation for social networking

Facebook just received a $200 million investment by serial social network investor Yuri Milsner, founder and CEO of Digital Sky Technologies.

Zuckerberg talks about Facebook position and influence in the evolution of social networks. While Facebook is growing at a ridiculous rate, 20-30 million users per month, Zuckerberg analogizes that Facebook is to social network what Apple was to the personal computer, an early monolithic company that sets the foundation or platform for much more social network innovation by external developers and companies.

Similarly, as Apple set the foundation for the personal PC, chip companies, app developers, and OS companies sprout to take advantage of the personal PC gold rush.

Top 5 ways to build a wonderful Life

1. Live Below Your Means

There will always be temptation to forsake the future for immediate gratification. We all want to buy that new piece of technology, treat ourselves to an expensive night on the town, or take out a loan for the flashy car we can't afford. It might feel great at the time but rash spending hurts a lot later on.

Enjoy life's simple pleasures and save as much as you can. Expensive things don't create lasting happiness and security. Careful spending will bring you greater leisure and enjoyment in the long run.

2. Put Your Money to Work

Saving is great, but to make the most of your money you need to put it to work. Good investments can be the difference between retiring in your 40's or in your 60's.

A post today at The Simple Dollar really got me thinking. According to Trent's projections, if a person in their early 20's invests 20% of their income in an S&P index fund, the interest they earn will equal their current salary when they reach their early 40's. They could retire without a drop in income!

Wise investing is the surest path to financial independence and it's something everyone can work on. It's definitely an area I'll be devoting more attention to in my personal life and on this blog.

3. Educate Yourself

To be happy we need continuous growth. The best way to grow is life long education. This doesn't mean you need to pursue a doctorate or spend 2 hours reading every day. Self education can be anything that takes you out of your comfort zone. The important part is keeping an open mind and searching for fresh ideas and perspectives.

Education builds over time. It might feel like the bits of wisdom you acquire don't mean much, but over the years they add up to form a wiser, kinder, more interesting person.

4. Develop Lasting Personal Relationships

Suppose you had everything you wanted. Would you be happy without anyone to share it with? The personal relationships we develop with friends and family members are the greatest source of happiness in our lives. Don't forget about them.

Taking the time to cultivate and enjoy personal relationships is essential to longterm happiness. Without the people you care about you'll probably be miserable, no matter how successful you become.

5. Work Towards a Dream You're Passionate About

Even if your life isn't perfect, you can always build towards a goal you're passionate about. If you aren't building towards something, you're probably stagnating. When this happens to me I start to feel like a victim trapped by my own life. The best way to reverse this is working towards a goal.

We can't control everything about our lives, but working towards a goal gives us something positive to focus on and lays the foundation for future success. No matter what your passion is, get out there and start doing something. As Lao Tzu said, even a journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.

Bonus: 6. Stay in Shape

You only get one body. Once it's been ruined there isn't much you can do about it. Exercise to keep the rust off. Avoid excessive consumption of damaging substances and unhealthy foods. It may feel like terrible self denial at the time but enjoying good health in your later years is worth the sacrifice.

The top 10 languages spoken in the world

The top 10 languages spoken in the world

10. French -- Number of speakers: 129 million
Often called the most romantic language in the world, French is spoken in tons of countries, including Belgium, Canada, Rwanda, Cameroon, and Haiti. Oh, and France too. We're actually very lucky that French is so popular, because without it, we might have been stuck with Dutch Toast, Dutch Fries, and Dutch kissing (ew!).
To say "hello" in French, say "Bonjour" (bone-JOOR).

9. Malay—Indonesian Number of speakers: 159 million
Malay-Indonesian is spoken - surprise - in Malaysia and Indonesia. Actually, we kinda fudged the numbers on this one because there are many dialects of Malay, the most popular of which is Indonesian. But they're all pretty much based on the same root language, which makes it the ninth most-spoken in the world.Indonesia is a fascinating place; a nation made up of over 13,000 islands it is the sixth most populated country in the world. Malaysia borders on two of the larger parts of Indonesia (including the island of Borneo), and is mostly known for its capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
To say "hello" in Indonesian, say "Selamat pagi" (se-LA-maht PA-gee).

8. Portuguese -- Number of speakers: 191 million
Think of Portuguese as the little language that could. In the 12th Century, Portugal won its independence from Spain and expanded all over the world with the help of its famous explorers like Vasco da Gama and Prince Henry the Navigator. (Good thing Henry became a navigator . . . could you imagine if a guy named "Prince Henry the Navigator" became a florist?) Because Portugal got in so early on the exploring game, the language established itself all over the world, especially in Brazil (where it's the national language), Macau, Angola, Venezuela, and Mozambique.
To say "hello" in Portuguese, say "Bom dia" (bohn DEE-ah).

7. Bengali -- Number of speakers: 211 million
In Bangladesh, a country of 120+ million people, just about everybody speaks Bengali. And because Bangladesh is virtually surrounded by India (where the population is growing so fast, just breathing the air can get you pregnant), the number of Bengali speakers in the world is much higher than most people would expect.
To say "hello" in Bengali, say "Ei Je" (EYE-jay).

6. Arabic -- Number of speakers: 246 million
Arabic, one of the world's oldest languages, is spoken in the Middle East, with speakers found in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt. Furthermore, because Arabic is the language of the Koran, millions of Moslems in other countries speak Arabic as well. So many people have a working knowledge of Arabic, in fact, that in 1974 it was made the sixth official language of the United Nations.
To say "hello" in Arabic, say "Al salaam a'alaykum" (Ahl sah-LAHM ah ah-LAY-koom) .

5. Russian -- Number of speakers: 277 million
Mikhail Gorbachev, Boris Yeltsin, and Yakov Smirnoff are among the millions of Russian speakers out there. Sure, we used to think of them as our Commie enemies. Now we think of them as our Commie friends. One of the six languages in the UN, Russian is spoken not only in the Mother Country, but also in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and the U.S. (to name just a few places).
To say "hello" in Russian, say "Zdravstvuite" (ZDRAST-vet- yah).

4. Spanish -- Number of speakers: 392 million
Aside from all of those kids who take it in high school, Spanish is spoken in just about every South American and Central American country, not to mention Spain, Cuba, and the U.S. There is a particular interest in Spanish in the U.S., as many English words are borrowed from the language, including: tornado, bonanza, patio, quesadilla, enchilada, and taco grande supreme.
To say "hello" in Spanish, say "Hola" (OH-la).

3. Hindustani -- Number of speakers: 497 million
Hindustani is the primary language of India's crowded population, and it encompasses a huge number of dialects (of which the most commonly spoken is Hindi). While many predict that the population of India will soon surpass that of China, the prominence of English in India prevents Hindustani from surpassing the most popular language in the world. If you're interested in learning a little Hindi, there's a very easy way: rent an Indian movie. The film industry in India is the most prolific in the world, making thousands of action/romance/ musicals every year.
To say "hello" in Hindustani, say "Namaste" (Nah-MAH-stay) .

2. English -- Number of speakers: 508 million
While English doesn't have the most speakers, it is the official language of more countries than any other language. Its speakers hail from all around the world, including the U.S., Australia, England, Zimbabwe, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, South Africa, and Canada. We'd tell you more about English, but you probably feel pretty comfortable with the language already. Let's just move on to the most popular language in the world.
To say "hello" in English, say "What's up, freak?" (watz-UP-freek) .

1. Mandarin -- Number of speakers: 1 billion+
Surprise, surprise, the most widely spoken language on the planet is based in the most populated country on the planet, China. Beating second-place English by a 2 to 1 ratio, but don't let that lull you into thinking that Mandarin is easy to learn.. Speaking Mandarin can be really tough, because each word can be pronounced in four ways (or "tones"), and a beginner will invariably have trouble distinguishing one tone from another. But if over a billion people could do it, so could you. Try saying hello!
To say "hello" in Mandarin, say "Ni hao" (Nee HaOW). ("Hao" is pronounced as one syllable, but the tone requires that you let your voice drop midway, and then raise it again at the end.)
